Editing for Music Video

Now that we have finished filming, we are ready to start editing. Before we could start editing the actual music video, we had to pick the best footage. My group and I decided that we would meet up at my group member Leo’s house. Before I got there, I thought about how our “story” in the music video could go. Once I got to my group member Leo’s house, we waiting for Madeline to get there. While Leo and I waited, we talked about what footage we thought was the best. We went through every clip we took, and favorited them. Once Madeline got to his house, we looked over the footage that Leo and I picked. When we showed Madeline, she agreed with the clips that Leo and I chose. Now that we all agreed on the footage we were going to use, we were ready to start editing.
We decided that we would edit on iMovie since we could get easy access to it. We edited on Madeline’s laptop because she has iMovie on her MacBook. The first thing my group members and I had to do was get the the footage onto the computer. We filmed on Leo’s phone, which is why we had to get it onto the computer to edit. I imported all of our footage onto Madeline’s laptop. Then, my group members and I picked out all the scenes we decided were the best. All the clips were then put onto the track. I told Leo when to put each clip in, to make sure it was in the correct order. I used our storyboard as a guide to make sure the scenes got put where they were supposed to go. Then we trimmed down the clips to make it the correct length.
Our music video had to be a minute and five seconds, to a minute and fifteen seconds long. Our video ended up being a minute and thirteen seconds, which was the required length. Once the video clips were trimmed the correct length, we removed the audio. Then the song was inserted into the footage. We had to edit the clips a little to make sure the lyrics of the song went with the correct scenes. Our music video was now finished, and we were done with the editing process. Since we have edited before, editing was easier this time. My group members and I were able to edit more efficiently. It was also a lot quicker this time since we knew how to use the software. It was so much fun getting to edit and watch our music video come together!

Finally Filming for Music Video

Friday, November 29th, was the first day my group and I started filming. My group members and I met at Leo’s house. We needed to film some scenes here in the beginning of the music video. This worked out really well since we were already at one of our filming locations. The first scene we needed to film was my group member Leo, acting like he was waking up. To film this scene, I stood on the bed so I could take the shot at a high angle. Since we have certain requirements that we must include in our music video, we made sure to plan what angles we would film at and the movements we would use. This one particular scene took us very long to get it right. Once Leo “woke up” he checks the phone to see what time it was. I filmed him waking up, and then zoomed into the time on the phone. This took very many takes however, since I had to move from off the bed to where the phone was and making it look smooth.
Once we finally finished this scene, I filmed the next scene of Leo opening the house door. We took a few takes of this, then moved onto the next scene. We walked outside to the car, and I filmed Leo opening the car door. We plan on making this an action shot, from the scene of Leo opening the house door, to the scene of him opening the car door. Then, I got in the passenger seat, and from there, filmed Leo getting into the driver seat. Since we can’t drive to the park, we I had to film Leo getting out of the car as well which we will as him acting like he just arrived to the park. We then had to uber to the park since we were finished filming all of the scenes we needed at his house. We ubered over to the park that was close to his house. On the way there we filmed shots of the road for our music video. Once we arrived to the park, we got ready to shoot our next scene.
We had to make sure that we worked efficiently so we could finish before the sun started setting. A friend of mine went as well so help us. For some scenes, we planned on having all three of my group members, including myself, to be in the shot. So, we needed someone else to film those parts for us. My friend had to leave at a certain time, so we first filmed the scene of all of us incase my friend had to leave. My group members and I acting like we were having a conversation while my friend filmed us. I was in other parts of the music video as well. My group members filmed me swinging on the swing, and getting a  fake tattoo. We also filmed extra scene incase we end up not liking one of the scenes. My friend filmed my group members and I while we sang the lyrics of the song. Overall, we got all of our footage that we need, and had a successful day of filming!

Filming for Music Video, Not

My group and I finished our storyboard and are now ready to film. However, we have not started filming yet. We plan on filming this Friday, the 29th. We weren’t able to film this past weekend because my group’s members and I were not all available. When we film, we are all needed because we are all in the music video. Due to this, we needed to figure out days that we are all available to film. We also can’t film after school since it is hard for my group members and I to find a ride to our filming locations. On Thursday, it is Thanksgiving so we can’t film on this day. We are going to film Friday since we are all available and are able to get to where we have to. We plan on filming everything that we need Friday, but if we don’t get everything, then we will plan another day for filming.
On Friday, we all plan on meeting at my group member Leo’s house. We will film the scene of him acting like he’s waking up here. We will also film him walking out of his bedroom at this location. Then we are going to film on the outside of his house as well. We are going to film him opening the car door and getting in. This scene will also be filmed while at his house. Our next location that we will be filming at is on the road. We need to film while in the car for one of our scenes. We will film this while on the way to our next location. Our next location that we plan on filming at is the park.
Once we arrive at the park, we are going to film my group member Leo, getting out of the car. Then, we are going to film him walking over to meet my group member and I over at the park. The rest of our scenes will also be filmed at this location. We are going to try and film everything as quickly and efficiently as possible. We need to make sure that we use our time wisely because we are going to be filming outside for the most part, so we will need the sunlight. If our filming takes too long and it starts getting dark, we will need to find another day to finish our filming. Since we are filming in very few locations, this will be easier for us to get to our locations and film in a timely manner. Our locations are also very close which will also save us time. We won’t waste a lot of time changing locations because of this. This will also help us with lighting because we will have more time to film before the sun sets. I can’t wait to start filming for our music video on Friday!

Storyboard for Music Video

Storyboard
My group and I are going to be filming a music video for the song “8TEEN” by Khalid pretty soon. Before then we’ll have to storyboard our ideas. The storyboard allows us to have a general idea of what we’re gonna film and what we’ll be incorporating. We’ll be incorporating multiple shots, movements, and angles throughout our video. For example, our first scene involves us filming our group member Leo waking up and we think a high angle would establish this the best. We’ll include other high and low angles somewhere in the video to show everything that we’ll be doing. The next scene would involve us using a long shot to film Leo opening his bedroom door. An action match, which is a fork of editing, allows for our next scene to happen which is Leo opening the rest of the car door. A wide shot will be used here to establish our member Leo and the car. The shots/angles/movements help build on what’s being filmed.
When it comes to the mis en scene we plan on acting as friends who know each other. Throughout the ending scenes in the storyboard you can see us acting as if we’re friends hanging out. Our costumes were dependent on the setting which is shown in the storyboard. The first setting is at a house so sleeping attire. The other setting is outside and at a park so normal attire. Natural lighting will be used since the daylight will be present during the park scenes. We will mostly film handheld so a more natural look of teenagers having fun is shown. Our sound is our song choice which was 8TEEN by Khalid. When it comes to editing we have a couple ideas. We want to include an action match during our second scene involving opening a bedroom door then cutting to a car door. We plan on using a reaction shot for the scene where Leo smells the thing in the car. We also plan on using jump cuts, dissolves, and fade outs for a nice and smooth process.

Planning for Music Video

Today we’re currently planning for our music video. This is essential so we can have a smooth process once we start filming. A plan last time helped us tremendously, so we’re sure it’ll help us this time. The main parts of our planning involves location, health & safety, props, costumes, and our schedule.
1. Location-  We have a couple of locations we plan on filming at. One of the locations would be at our group member Leo’s house. A couple of our scenes involve him waking up so we plan on filming in his house. We’ll also be filming around the exterior of his house. We will also film around his neighborhood for scenes possibly involving the road. We will also be filing at the part for the second half of the music video.
2. Health & Safety- When it comes to health and safety, there are some precautions. We plan on filming some scenes in a car. Since we plan on filming in a car, we will wear seatbelts as a precaution incase we have to drive. In that situation, we’ll have an adult present just incase. If we have to walk and cross any roads, we’ll check both sides and make sure no cars are coming.
3. Props- We’ll be using a couple of props during the filming. We’ll need a car. This is for certain scenes where it talks about the way a car smells and talks about traffic. We’ll also need a phone for our beginning scene. We’ll need it to show the time, which is needed for our opening scene.
4. Costumes- For the music videos there aren’t that many costumes we will need. For the first couple of scenes we may need our group member Leo to wear sleeping attire. That would consist of gym shorts and a shirt. For the rest we will all be in normal attire. That will most likely be jeans, shirts, and sneakers. Our music video is essentially showing teenagers so that’s why it will be normal attire.
5. Schedule- Our schedule may change based on availability. Right now we have three dates we can all possibly film. Those dates are November 27, November 29 and December 1. These are the only dates where we can all most likely get together. We plan on editing the following week during our class periods and at home.

Intro to Music Video

We finally finished our commercial that was on Gatorade. Now, we are starting our new project where we are going to make a music video. I am so excited to make a music video and be able to do it now my group members and I decide. We also get to pick the song that our music video will be on. In our commercial, we had to film on campus, but for our music video, we have to film off campus. This gives us many more options for where to film which will allow us to be more creative with our film. While making our commercial, we had some things that worked and did not work. We filmed our commercial outside so we had natural lighting. This worked for us because the lighting in the commercial looked good, so we know that we can use natural lighting for our music video. For our music video, we need to work on editing since this didn’t work so good during our commercial. We had so many problems with the editing process which led to us loosing time for the development of our commercial.
The song we chose to do was 8TEEN by Khalid. We chose this song for a few reasons. This song is chill and also exciting. Since the song is like this, we thought that we would be able to film what the lyrics are saying to go along with the song. Picking a song like this was our best choice since we will be able to film it and it will be fun since it has a good beat.
The genre that our song is in is R&B/Soul. This genre usually consists of medium shots and close-up shots. These camera angles are normally the most popular and are used a lot in this genre. They film slowly and the camera doesn’t move very fast. The sounds are are mainly smooth and calmly but sometimes can be more up-lifting.

1. Costumes: The costumes are generally normal attire. In the music videos, the people wear everyday clothing.
2. Lighting: The lighting normally used is natural lighting or indoor lighting. They use this lighting because in the videos, they are mainly outside and indoor.
3. Actors: The people acting appear to be normal people and appear as friends to the music artist. This is mostly because in the videos the people seem to have some form of a relationship.
4. Makeup: In most music videos like ours, there doesn’t appear to be much makeup. The girls would wear everyday makeup.
5. Props- The props used are usually cars and items that fit the lyrics in the song. This is because the lyrics tend to tell a certain story.
6. Setting- The setting in these type of music videos are at normal places depending on what the lyrics are trying to say. They can vary from houses, the beach, or the mall.

Editing the Commercial pt.2

Last class we started editing our commercial. We finally got laptops with pinnacle studios on it so we could edit. We were so happy to finally have the laptops since the desktops didn’t all have pinnacle studios. Time was lost because of this so now we finally got to start our editing process. Once we got the computer, my group member went onto his google drive account so we could get all of our footage. Then, I downloaded all the footage from google drive so that we would get it on pinnacle studios. When pinnacle studios finally opened, we saw there was a sample video so I clicked file, and then new. I did this so we could start new for our commercial. Then, I imported everything from the files onto pinnacle studios. After everything finally imported, I had to click every take that we took so my group and I could pick the best ones.
We first started with the scene of my group member walking onto the track. Once we all decided on the take that was the best, I dragged the clip onto the video track. Then we had to watch all of the takes of her unzipping her bag and taking her shoe out. Then I dragged the best clip onto the video track of this scene. Then we decided on the best scene of my group member putting her shoe on and then getting in running position. I then dragged this piece of footage onto the track right after the previous clip. I continued to drag all the best takes onto the track as we went through and decided which ones to use. Finally, after I was done dragging everything, our footage was all put together. By the time we were done putting our videos together on the track, class was already over. We had so many technical difficulties in the beginning that we had a late start, and therefore weren’t able to get much done.
Today, we got into class prepared to work quickly since we knew we didn’t have a lot of time. We grabbed a computer right away and turned it on. After waiting a while, it finally turned on, so then I opened pinnacle studios. I soon started to panic when it didn’t open. We tried opening it many times but it was saying that pinnacle studios wasn’t responding. I was freaking out since we couldn’t access our commercial and we had no clue what to do. We tried shutting it down, restarting it, everything we could do. Since it didn’t open, we knew that we would have to start all over so we grabbed a different computer. While waiting for the other computer to turn on, I started going through our footage on my google drive to try and figure out what takes we used for the commercial. I had to go through all the footage again and look for the best ones. I found the first few clips, but then saw class was over soon so we decided to put all the footage on my group members hard drive. Then, class was over so we knew we would have to finish it this weekend. Thankfully, we will have an extra day now in class due to all the technical difficulties.
